The “Concerts du Dimanche Matin” at the TCE invited the young Italian pianist Beatrice Rana to play the Goldberg Variations, one of the highest masterpieces of Bach keyboard music.
I happened to have listened to one of her concerts on the radio, and to find enough qualities to chance it. Some say that valor does not depend upon age, but it occurs that artists choose repertoires for which they lack maturity. At only 23, what about Rana and the Goldberg – I had not listened to her recording at the time – ?
Well, basically I found the same qualities and some characteristics which are her own, the Mediterranean side, good intuition and a lot of vigour – sometimes maybe a bit too much.
All in all, a very interesting interprétation, full of life.
Incidentally, Jean-Philippe Collard was there and congratulated her at the end of the concert!
