Riccardo Chailly was conducting the Filarmonica della Scala at the Philharmonie de Paris, beginning of October 2016, in a concert where Martha Argerich joined forces with them. The concert focused on 2 composers: Robert Schumann and Giuseppe Verdi.
As a starter, the Italian maestro and orchestra performed a beautiful version of Manfred’s Overture, then with Argerich the Piano Concerto, whose 2nd & 3rd movements were particularly inspired. The Argentinian born pianist gave the 1st piece of the Kinderszenen, Von fremden Ländern und Menschen as an encore.
After the intermission, Chailly and the Milanese Orchestra played a repertoire they are naturally very familiar with, pieces by Verdi with 2 excerpts of the Vêpres siciliennes : Les Quatre Saisons then the Sinfonia (Overture).
Before leaving, they offered as an encore Rossini’s Overture of Guillaume Tell, which did not fail to make the audience roar.
