David Fray plays Chopin and Schubert

David Fray, who has just recorded a Chopin album, was in concert at the TCE.

The 1st half was dedicated to the Polish composer, with different pieces: 3 of his wonderful Nocturnes (op 9 No.2 and the splendid op 48 No.1 & 2), Mazurka op 63 No.3, Impromptu op 51 No.3, Waltz op 69 No.1, and a most remarkable Polonaise-Fantaisie. If the pianist seemed to have some sort of a cold, his playing was exquisite and warm!

Then came Schubert with his next to last Sonata D959. David has already enchanted us in the past with some of Schubert’s works (I remember a concert with outstanding Moments Musicaux), and this was just another opportunity to get the confirmation of his affinities with the Austrian master.

David Fray kindly gave 3 encores: 2 from Brahms op 116 (Intermezzo No.6 and Capriccio No.1), both being excellent. He was back for an out of this world Sarabande from Bach’s 2nd Partita!
