The Troyes Museum of Modern Art in France and the Laren Singer Museum in Netherlands partnered to display their counterpart works in 2 cross-perspective exhibitions.
The French museum hosts works from the collection of patrons Pierre & Denise Lévy, which offer a rich panorama of French painting (and sculpture) from the 1850s to the 1950s.
In this high level museum, one can see works by Millet, Courbet, Daumier, Degas, Gauguin, Vuillard, Bonnard, a remarkable ensemble of fauve artists, Derain, Braque, Vlaminck, Marquet, Dufy, Friesz, van Dongen, but also Soutine, Modigliani. Valtat, Gris, Matisse, Rouault, Ernst and Buffet.
The Singer Museum has an important collection of paintings from the Laren school (some artists were also linked to the Hague school): Dutch painters Israëls, Mauve, Maris, Nibbrig, but also the American William Henry Singer Jr, who settled in Laren, or the French Henri Le Sidaner, or others like Liebermann. One can also find works by Boudin, Breitner, Gestel, Dufy, van Dongen, de Smet or Sluijters.
if I’ve been a long time Le Sidaner admirer, I found the Singer’s paintings on display quite enjoyable.
The exhibitions are respectively named: “Franse Modernisten” and “Une modernité hollandaise, la collection Singer“.
