Marc Chagall, who died a few months short of his 98th birthday, lived one of the most troubles times and witnessed the horrors of the 2 World Wars.
The Luxembourg museum is hosting an exhibition of works in relation with war and peace.
The first rooms display rarely seen works when Chagall was not yet Chagall, with some very beautiful paintings and some drawings which differ in style.
Then Chagall’s art moves in the direction that he became famous for, with animals or people in the sky, marrying couples, musicians…
One striking aspect of the works on display is the richness (and sometimes the violence) of the colours. Look at the Triptych for instance!
A very good opportunity to discover or rediscover the different themes he addressed in his own inimitable style.
